1)Why did you join the Miss Chinese Vancouver pageant?
I had just finished 4 years of Computer Engineering that year, so I felt that it was the right time to try something
that would let me get in touch with my feminine side.I was an internationally competitive rhythmic gymnast before I went to
university, so the thought of joining something so exciting and getting the chance to perform again was really fascinating.
2)Do you have any really good friends in the pageant?
Actually,
all 10 of us have managed to stay in touch! We get together for dinner regularly to catch up on each others lives.Honestly,
coming into the pageant, I didn't expect to be able to get along so well with all 9 girls, but we were a fun group of girls
and didn't really get competitive, so that's great. On top of that, when Leanne comes back, we all try our best to see her.So
we haven't lost touch with anyone!
3)What was your first thought that came in your mind when you were
announced 1st runner up?
For
a split second when they announced my name, I didn't know it was me!I just stood there and looked at the MC for confirmation
before the surprise set in.I think my family and friends understood before I did, even though it was just for a split second. After
that, I was just walking on a cloud.?I couldn't believe how lucky I was!
4)?Did you ever think of getting in to top 3?
I thought
about it when I first applied for the pageant. But, when the preparations actually started, I realized how difficult it is
to make the show run smoothly, and I was just honored to be a part of it.On that night, I just wanted to have fun and put
on a great show, so that I could look back and watch myself with pride, regardless of the result.?The show and
the preparations are such wonderful experiences by themselves.I'm so glad I have this memory to take with me.
5)You're a fabulous dancer, Pearl! How long have you been taking dancing
lessons?
I started
taking ballet and Chinese Dance lessons when I was 6.?When I was 8, my parents discovered Rhythmic Gymnastics
and guided me towards the competitive direction. With Rhythmic Gymnastics, I was able to travel around the world and represent
Taiwan and Canada.Meeting amazing gymnasts
who dedicated their lives to the sport really humbled me and taught me to be grateful of the support I constantly receive
from the people around me.?Right now, I am just glad that I have opportunity to perform for Fairchild and try
out different styles of dance.I hope to continue performing and I hope to inspire other girls to dance.
6)?Who's your favorite Miss Chinese Vancouver winner?
I've
met Bernice, Linda, Leanne, and Crystal, and they are all very well-rounded and talented people.?However, I know
Leanne as a friend, so I'm going to pick her.Leanne is a kind, beautiful person, and a good friend.Go, Leanne!
