1)Why did you decide to participate in the Miss Chinese Calgary pageant?
Actually ever since I was a little girl
I would watch the Miss Hong Kong and the Miss Chinese International pageants with my mum,and I always said that when I grow
up I want to be just like the girls that I saw on TV. Then in 98 i found out that my cousin Cecila Wang had won the MCC pageant
and she was off to Hong Kong to compete in MCI !! So when I hit 16 I entered MCC,but being so young I didnt even think I would
place, but I ended up coming third ! So I said to myself,if I want to make it to MCI I will re enter next year and
I will have to put 100% effort into it.
2)What was going through your head when you were announced the 1st runner up?
Here in Calgary the MCC pageant
is only held every two years due to the Chinese population being so small...so even if I only come in second I would still
get to compete in MCI.
I cant really remember how I felt when they called out my name and number...I dont think I knew
what was going on...and when it hit me it was all just like a dream! I couldnt believe it!!
3)Were you excited to know that you would representing Calgary in the Miss Chinese International pageant?
Oh yes!
All my hard work had paid off!!
It was good to have a year to prepare for MCI,so it was a good thing I came in second.
I had to learn Chinese and even learn how to use chopsticks!!!
I have learnt so much in the past few years about not ONLY
the Traditions and Chinese culture here in Calgary...but in Hong Kong and China as well. I honestly think that had I not been
given the chance to respresent Calgary at MCI I wouldnt have gotten to learn or experience any of it first hand.
Not only
that but It made me want to go out and try new things.
4)What was your favorite moment during Miss Chinese International?
I
dont think I had a specific favorite moment because it was all so new to me.
Everything that we did was fun and exciting!
I
think the best part of MCI was getting to meet 21 great girls from around the world and getting to hear about what their host
city is like! That is something that I might not ever had the chance to do if I wasnt in MCI. Not only that but I was able
to tell the girls about Calgary! Some of the girls had never even heard of Calgary before because we are such a small city!
I
made such good friends with some of the girls at MCI and that I think was the most important thing to me. I still talk to
some of the girls every once in a while...But I talk to Jess (of MCI05 2ND RUNNERUP) almost every other day! We are even planning
to meet up with some of the girls at a different host city every year!
5)Who is your favorite Miss Chinese International winner?
My favorite MCI winner is 2001's Bernice Liu...after I
watched her at MCV I was sure she would do well at MCI.I think she has great stage presence, not to mention classic beauty!
Plus I met her in HK and she is down to earth and really sweet.
thanks so much patricia!
