Lien Xian's Interview

MCNY2003

1)Why did you perticipate in the Miss Chinese New York
pageant?

After an ad in my grandmother's newspaper for the Miss
Chinese NY beauty pageant caught my eye, I saw it as a
'stepping stone' towards my career in the
entertainment industry. I was skeptical to enter the
pageant at first because my chinese is not really good
but after some encouraging words from my family and
friends, I registered myself.

2)What was your first thought when you were announced
the winner?

Seriously, I could not believe it!I certainly did my
best that night but I would never have imagined myself
as the winner. What scared me the most was that most
of the other contestants spoke perfect chinese and I
would be lying if I said I did. LOL. You could say, I
was probably the 'least' chinese of all the
contestants and for the judges to choose me as Miss
Chinese NY 2003 definately gave me more confidence in
myself as well as wonderful opportunities.
3)Who is your best friend in the Miss Chinese
International pageant?

I'd probably have to go with Carlene Aguilar(Miss
Manila).?We actually had, kind of, a 'circle of
friends' thing going on, it consisted of Serina (Miss
Toronto), Mandy (Miss HK), Carolina (Miss Lima),
Amanda (Miss Melbourne), Carlene and I.We always
hung out together between breaks.Carlene and I
bonded instantly because of our love for goofing
around and the sharing of similar interests, like our
love for the arts and the entertainment industry. We
('the circle') still keep in touch and right now, are
in the midst of making plans to visit one another.

4)What was your most memerable experience during the
Miss Chinese International pageant?
There are so many! ...The international friends I
made, the thoughts shared, the political debates we
had, practicing and rehearsing the chinese language in
a very small matter of time, I could go on...
5)Who is your favorite Miss Chinese International
winner?

Michelle Yee (Miss Chinese International 1999). She's
a classic beauty, simply timeless and exudes this
intelligence and she's from New York. (ok, I may be a
little biased. LOL)
